The Newsmast app offers users an integrated experience featuring their Mastodon account, home timeline, and hand-curated communities. This platform focuses on significant topics, fostering a diverse and democratic environment aimed at creating safe, committed communities that aspire to effect societal change.

A notable feature of Newsmast is its integration of content from the user's home server with knowledge-sharing communities curated by Newsmast itself, all hosted on the customized Mastodon instance, newsmast.social. This approach eliminates the typical practices of content scraping or aggregation; instead, community content is sourced exclusively from Newsmast users or via federation. Moreover, moderation is enforced through the Oliphant Tier 0 blocklist, alongside filters designed to exclude NSFW material, cryptocurrency discussions, and hate speech, supported by oversight from a dedicated human moderation team.

Users can effortlessly engage across both servers through functionalities such as liking, reposting, responding, following, bookmarking, and adding to lists. A key aspect of this user experience includes the ability to post within communities and share content with followers while automatically appending relevant hashtags.
